COORDINATING CORRELATIVE CONJUNCTIONS

The correlative conjunctions connect two sentences in correlation.

Example:
" O mangio l'antipasto o prendo il dolce. "

The most important correlative conjunctions are:

• e... e  (the two actions happen in the same moment)

  Example:
  "Marco fa troppe cose: e lavora, e studia canto, e fa sport..."

• né... né  (neither one of the actions happens)

  Example:
  "Antonio non deve né muoversi né parlare."

• sia... sia  (the two actions are both possible)

  Example:
  "Hai diverse soluzioni: sia andare in treno, sia andare in taxi, sia andare a piedi."

• non solo... ma anche  (a second action adds to the first one)

  Example:
  "Non solo è responsabile del personale, ma anche controlla la parte finanziaria."

• ora... ora  (the two actions alternate)

  Example:
  "Oggi è una giornata strana: ora piove, ora c'è il sole."

• o... o  (the two actions exclude them selves in turn)

  Example:
  "Marco deve scegliere: o resta a Roma, o torna a Milano."
