COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS

The coordinating conjunctions connect two equal important sentences with the same function.

Example:
"Marco è ingegnere e Anna è segretaria."

The coordinating conjunctions are divided according to their meaning and function in:

• copulative  (when they add a concept to an other)

  Example:
  "Vado e torno."

• disjunctive  (when they connect two sentences that exclude them selves in turn)

  Example:
  "Mangiamo qui o andiamo al ristorante."

• adversative  (when they connect two sentences in conflict)

  Example:
  "Marco è antipatico, ma in fondo è buono."

• declarative  (when they introduce a sentence that explains the preceding one)

  Example:
  "Maria è miope, infatti porta gli occhiali."

• conclusive  (when they introduce a sentence that ends a concept or expresses a conclusion)

  Example:
  "Non mi piacciono i gamberetti, quindi li evito sempre."

• correlative  (when the correlate two sentences)

  Example:
  "Non solo mi piace il cinema, ma anche il teatro."
