In Italian there are some nouns that only have the singular form.
These nouns are called difettivi del singolare.

These are the most important groups of nouns with a singular lack:

• nouns of symmetrical objects

  Example:
  "Le forbici; i pantaloni; gli occhiali."

• nouns that indicate things of the same group

  Example:
  "Le stoviglie; le spezie; i viveri."

• some nouns of the ancient Latin language

  Example:
  "Le ferie; le nozze; le tenebre."
