SUBJECT PERSONAL PRONOUNS

The subject personal pronoun indicates who does the action expressed by the verb.

Example:
"Io parlo con Marco."

In Italian the subject pronoun has different forms:

• in relation to the person  (first, second, third)
• in relation to the gender  (masculine and feminine)
• in relation to the number  (singular and plural)

Attention:
In Italian language you don't usually use the subject pronoun in front of the verb, because the verb has different forms to indicate the subject.

Examples:
"Parliamo con Marco."
In this case the subject is 'noi'

"Mangiano una pizza."
In this case the subject is 'loro'

The subject pronoun is used in front of the verb only in two occasions:

• when the verbal forms are the same  (for example in the subjunctive form)

  Example:
  "Vogliono che io scriva la prima parte del libro e che tu scriva la seconda."

• to give more importance to the subject  (for example when there is an opposition between two people)

  Example:
  "Lui lavora troppo, io invece no."
