PRONOUNS AND MODAL VERBS

When the direct, indirect and combined or reflexive unstressed pronouns meet the modal verbs they can take two different positions.

These are the positions of the unstressed pronouns with the modal verbs:

• they can be in front of all the verbal group

  Example:
  "Ti devo dire una cosa importante."

• They can be after the infinitive, linked to it in one single word

  Example:
  "Devo dirti una cosa importante."

Attention:
If the verbal group with the modal verb is conjugated in an other compound form and is preceded by lo, la, li, le or ne ù the past participle has to agree with the pronoun.

Example:
" I fiori LI ha volutI comprare Marco "
