POSSESSIVE PRONOUNSYou are here: morphology > pronouns > possessive
The possessive pronouns express a relation of possession and indicate the belonging of a noun.
The possessive pronouns are used always alone because they substitute a noun.
Example: "
La casa di Marco è molto grande, la mia è più piccola.
"
In this example the possessive pronoun 'mia' substitutes the noun 'la casa' and indicates that it belongs to me.
Attention:
The possessive pronouns are always referred to a person.
For this reason there are 6 different possessive pronouns in Italian, one per person: - MIO
(referred to the first person singular)
- TUO
(referred to the second person singular)
- SUO
(referred to the third person singular)
- NOSTRO
(referred to the first person plural)
- VOSTRO
(referred to the second person plural)
- LORO
(referred to the third person plural)
Note: Mio, tuo, suo, nostro ad vostro
act as normal adjectives a 4 uscite. Loro acts as an invariable adjective.
