PARTICULAR FORMS OF THE RELATIVE PRONOUNS

The relative pronouns can have particular forms and uses.

These are the most important:

  • cui has possessive function when it's between the article and the noun it's referred to

    Example:
    "Marco, il cui padre si chiama Sergio, vive a Milano."

  • che preceded by the article il has neutral value and it means this thing

    Example:
    "Piove, il che non mi permette di giocare a tennis."

  • cui in the expression per cui means for this reason

    Example:
    "Marco ha trovato lavoro a Milano, per cui non viene pił a Roma."
