IRREGULARITY OF THE IMPERFECT INDICATIVE AND SUBJUNCTIVE

The imperfect indicative and subjunctive is a tense which tends to be regular.
There are, however, verbs which use the stem of the Latin infinitive to form the imperfect of the two forms.

Example:
" Marco faceva spesso lunghe passeggiate al parco. "

These are the principle irregular verbs at the imperfect:

• fare ---> facevo, facessi

  Example:
  "Ieri faceva freddo."

• porre ---> ponevo, ponessi  (and all compound verbs of porre, for example, comporre)

  Example:
  "I clienti non ponevano problemi per l'acquisto."

• condurre ---> conducevo, conducessi  (and all compound verbs with the -durre suffix, for instance, produrre)

  Example:
  "Sembrava che lo scienziato conducesse un esperimento molto interessante."
