MODAL VERBS AND SIMPLE TENSES OF REFLEXIVE VERBS

The simple tenses of modal verbs have a particular behavior when they encounter a reflexive verb.

These are the two possible forms:

• reflexive pronoun + modal verb + infinitive of reflexive verb without pronoun

  Example:
  "Marco si deve preparare presto la mattina."

• modal verb + infinitive of reflexive verb with pronoun

  Example:
  "Marco deve prepararsi presto la mattina."

Attention:
The reflexive verbs use the auxiliary of the verb they modify.
