MODAL VERBS

Modal verbs are verbs which modify the meaning of another verbs and indicate the possibility, the necessity or the will to do a determinate action.

Example:
" Voglio andare nel parco a camminare, ma non posso, perché piove. "

Modal verbs function like auxiliary verbs: after the modal, simple or compound verb forms, the infinitive of the verb that they modify.

There are 3 modal verbs:

• potere  (indicates possibility)

  Example:
  "Anna può cantare molto bene."

• dovere  (indicates necessity)

  Example:
  "Io devo andare a lavorare tutti i giorni."

• volere  (indicates will)

  Example:
  "Noi vogliamo stare a casa stasera."
