USE OF THE PRESENT PARTICIPLE

The present participle is used to build many clauses with an implicit form contemporary to the supporting clause.

Example:
" Marco chiede informazioni alla persona competente. "
In this example the action of 'avere competenza', expressed with the present participle, happens in the same moment of the action of 'chiedere' of the supporting clause.
