SUBORDINATE CAUSAL CLAUSES

The subordinate causal clauses indicate the cause of the supporting clause.

Example:
" Marco va a dormire, perché è molto stanco. "

In the explicit form these clauses are introduced by these conjunctions:

• perché

  Example:
  "Anna compra lo zucchero perché vuole preparare un dolce."

• poiché  (used also at the beginning of a period)

  Example:
  "Poiché avete vinto vi do un premio."

• siccome  (used often at the beginning of a period)

  Example:
  "Siccome è tardi torno a casa."

Note:
The causal clauses can also be introduced by phrases: dato che, dal momento che, visto che, in quanto and others.

Attention:
In the explicit form these clauses use the indicative mood.
The causal clauses use the subjunctive only in the negative unreal form.

Example:
" Ti faccio questa critica non perché tu non sia bravo, ma perché voglio farti capire l'errore. "

Note:
These clauses follow the rules of time concordance.

In the implicit form these clauses are introduced by:

• a gerundive verb

  Example:
  "Avendo vinto vi do un premio."

• per + infinitive

  Example:
  "Per aver lavorato bene, Marco ha ottenuto un elogio."

• a past participle verb

  Example:
  "Visto il problema, ho avverto il Direttore."

Note:
These clauses can be contemporary to the supporting (with the present infinitive or gerundive) or anterior (with infinitive, gerundive or past participle).
