SUBORDINATE COMPARATIVE CLAUSES

The subordinate comparative clauses indicate a comparison with the supporting clause.

Example:
" Milano č ancora pių bella di come mi ricordavo. "

The comparative clauses can have three different kinds:

• of equality  (are introduced by cosė... come, tanto... quanto, tale... quale)

  Example:
  "Venezia č tanto affascinante quanto dicevano tutti."

• of majority  (are introduced by pių... che, pių... di come, pių... di quanto)

  Example:
  "In Italia ci sono pių monumenti di quanto si crede."

• of minority  (are introduced by meno... che, meno... di come, meno... di quanto)

  Example:
  "Antonio č meno giovane di quanto vuol far credere."

Attention:
These clauses can use the indicative mood if they express certainty, the conditional mood if they express possibility or the subjunctive mood if the express uncertainty.

Note:
These clauses follow the rules of time concordance.

In the implicit form these clauses are introduced by:

• pių che + infinitive

  Example:
  "Pių che correre, questa macchina vola!"

• piuttosto che / di + infinitive

  Example:
  "Piuttosto che perdermi questo concerto, oggi non vado al lavoro."

Attention:
In the implicit form these clauses practically only use the infinitive mood.

Note:
These clauses can be contemporary to the supporting (with the present infinitive) or anterior (with the past infinitive).
