SUBORDINATE FINAL CLAUSES

The subordinate final clauses indicate the aim of the supporting clause.

Example:
" Chiariamo il problema affinché non si ripresenti in futuro. "

In the explicit form these clauses are introduced by these conjunctions:

• affinché

  Example:
  "Abbiamo insistito affinché loro venissero a salutarvi."

• perché

  Example:
  "Il professore spiega lentamente l'argomento della lezione perché tutti capiscano bene."

Attention:
In the explicit form these clauses use the subjunctive mood.

Note:
These clauses only use the present subjunctive if the supporting clause is present or the future or imperfect subjunctive if the supporting clause is past.

In the implicit form these clauses are introduced by:

• per + infinitive

  Example:
  "Anna scrive una lettera a Marco per dirgli che gli vuole bene."

• some phrases + infinitive  (al fine di, allo scopo di, con l'intento di)

  Example:
  "Facciamo questa riunione allo scopo di illustrare il nuovo piano aziendale."

Attention:
In the implicit form these clauses only use the infinitive mood.

Note:
These clauses can only be contemporary or posterior to the supporting (with the present infinitive).
