UNREAL OR IMPOSSIBLE HYPOTHETICAL PERIOD

In the unreal hypothetical period hypothesis and consequences are impossible or unreal or very improbable.

The condition is expressed with se + pluperfect subjunctive.
The consequence is expressed with the past conditional.

Example:
" Se avessi avuto tempo ti sarei venuto a prendere alla stazione. "
From the sense of the clause we immediately know that the consequences didn’t happen.

Attention:
The unreal hypothetical period is only built in the past.
