POSSIBLE HYPOTHETICAL PERIODYou are here: syntax > period > subordinate_clauses > hypothetical_period > possible
In the possible hypothetical period the hypothesis is possible, the consequence possible, probable or almost sure.
The condition is expressed with se + imperfect subjunctive.
The consequence is expressed with the present conditional, present indicative or future or with imperative.
Examples:
"
Se andassimo al cinema vedremmo un bel film.
"
The condition is imperfect subjunctive, the consequence present conditional.
"
Se telefonasse Marco, passamelo!
"
The condition is imperfect subjunctive, the consequence imperative.
"
Se vincessi al lotto, farà una festa.
"
The condition is imperfect subjunctive, the consequence future.
Note:
These are some of the possible combinations.
Attention:
The possible hypothetical period can't be built in the past because it would have an unreal value and should follow the rules to build the hypothetical period of 3rd kind.
