HYPOTHETICAL PERIOD

The hypothetical period is a group of two clauses connected together, in which the subordinate clause expresses the necessary condition to realize the consequences described by the action of the main clause.
The condition is always preceded by the conjunction se, the consequence can be expressed in many ways.

Regarding the meaning the hypothetical period is divided in:

• 1st kind: real  (hypothesis and consequences are sure)

  Example:
  "Se domani piove, non vado a giocare a tennis."

• 2nd kind: possible  (the hypothesis is possible, the consequence is possible or very probable)

  Example:
  "Se avessi i soldi farei un bel viaggio."

• 3rd kind: unreal or impossible  (hypothesis and consequences are unreal o impossible)

  Example:
  "Se avessi avuto pił tempo ti sarei venuto a trovare."

Attention:
There also exist not standard combinations that will be analyzed in the section of the mixed hypothetical period.
