SUBORDINATE MODAL CLAUSES

The subordinate modal and instrumental clauses indicate how or with what the supporting clause is realized.

Example:
" Antonio si allena moltissima, come se dovesse partecipare ad una gara fra professionisti "

In the explicit form these clauses are introduced by these conjunctions:

• come se

  Example:
  "Ti comporti come se io non esistessi."

• quasi (che)

  Example:
  "Marco dorme profondamente, quasi che avesse avuto molto bisogno di riposo."

• comunque

  Example:
  "Comunque vada a finire il film, io mi sono divertita."

• in qualsiasi modo

  Example:
  "In qualsiasi modo ti vesta sei sempre elegante."

Attention:
These clauses can use the indicative mood if they express certainty, the conditional mood if they express possibility or the subjunctive mood if they express uncertainty.

Note:
These clauses follow the rules of time concordance.

In the implicit form these clauses are introduced by:

• a forza di + infinitive

  Example:
  "A forza di studiare adesso Anna suona benissimo il pianoforte."

• a gerundive

  Example:
  "Studiando molto Anna ha imparato a suonare il pianoforte."

Note:
These clauses can be contemporary to the supporting (with present infinitive or gerundive) or anterior (with past infinitive or gerundive).
