SUBORDINATE RELATIVE CLAUSES

The subordinate relative clauses are in relation with the supporting clause because they have a common element.

Example:
" La donna che vedi è mia moglie. "

The relative clauses are always introduced by a relative pronoun.
You can study in the grammar section the different forms of these pronouns.

These are the most important values that the relative clauses can assume:

• causal

  Example:
  "La polizia ha arrestato una persona che (perché) stava rubando la borsa a una signora."

• temporal

  Example:
  "Marco è arrivato nel momento in cui (quando) io sono andato via."

• final

  Example:
  "Posso parlare con una persona che (affinché) mi spieghi come risolvere il problema al computer."

• consecutive

  Example:
  "Marco ha un comportamento che (tale che) a volte fa perdere la pazienza."

Attention:
These clauses can use the indicative mood if they express certainty, the conditional mood if they express possibility or the subjunctive mood if they express uncertainty.

Note:
These clauses follow the rules of time concordance.

In the implicit form these clauses are introduced by:

• a relative pronoun + infinitive

  Example:
  "Tutti hanno un santo a cui votarsi."
