THE COMPLEMENT OF AGENT IN THE PASSIVE CONSTRUCTION

In the transformation from the active form to the passive one, the subject of the sentence in the active form becomes the complement of agent in the passive one.

Example:
" La mamma (soggetto) prepara la pizza (oggetto). ---> La pizza è, preparata dalla mamma (agente). "

There are two rules:

• if the subject of the active sentence is an understood personal pronoun, in the passive sentence it becomes complement of agent with pronoun

  Example:
  "(Unexpressed subject: io) Ho fatto un dolce. ---> Un dolce è stato fatto da me (agent)."

• if the subject of the active sentence is not a pronoun and is unexpressed, the passive sentence doesn't have the complement of agent.

  Example:
  "(Unexpressed subject) Hanno venduto tanti biglietti ---> Sono stati venduti tanti bilgietti."
