THE SUBJECT IN THE PASSIVE CONSTRUCTION

In the transformation from the active form to the passive one, the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive one.

Example:
" La mamma (subject) prepara la pizza (object). ---> La pizza (subject) è, preparata dalla mamma. "

A sentence can be passive only if the verb is transitive and if there is an express object.

Examples:
" La mamma prepara (transitive) per la festa. "
In this example the verb is transitive, but the object is unexpressed: the sentence cannot be passive.

" La mamma prepara (transitive) un dolce (object) "
In this example the verb is transitive and there is an express object: the sentence can be passive.
